Thursday...Wearing my Neverhood shirt - I met Tom Gulotta (co-owner with Terry of Stunt Records) (we had informally met in '93) and got to talk to him a bit. 7-Ball magazine was kind enough to share their booth with Stunt. At the Stunt half-booth there were: DA CDs (Alarma, Doppelganger, Vox Humana, Motor Cycle, BibleLand, Songs of The Heart, Preachers (From Outer Space), more?), Terry CDs (Briefing, K&I), DA shirts (Doppelganger, Motor Cycle, BibleLand), the Neverhood soundtrack, Swirling Eddies shirts, Stunt shirts, Stunt hats, and probably some stuff I forget. Tom had the honor of numbering the Ten-Gallon Hat cd labels.
Friday...Motor Cycle shirt - 7-Ball magazine was kind enough to kick Stunt out of their booth. Tom got to relocate everything to the smaller exhibition tent filled with hard-core/punk/etc bands. Some DA curse?
Saturday...Motor Cycle shirt still (I think) - This was some
day (pretty profound, huh?). I'll break things up:
Terry's press conference...I had never been to an artist's
press conference before - and it seemed as though most of the people there
hadn't either. It was an open question/answer time. I recorded it and am
trying to decided if I want to transcribe the whole thing or summarize
it. It'll take a while either way.
The solo ditti
...After the press conference, Terry went to the Stunt booth to play a few songs
- just him and a guitar (and the background noise of the rest of the tent).
He played Buffalo Hills, Walls of Doubt, Amber Waves Goodbye
(sing-along), and Potatos, Tomatos and Peas. It was quite nice. I'd like
to put a song from it on here, but my recording isn't that great. In between
songs Terry mentioned:
The 700 Club thing...I had a hard time believing it. I
had seen an RV with a 700 Club banner but thought it was a joke.
When Terry said he was "doing the 700 Club thing" I figured it was an interview.
Well, after the solo ditti I ran (walked actually) to my tent and back...only
to find a camera crew (the crew part not readily apparent), Terry, and
a cardboard Pat Robertson. I still figured this was some joke (c'mon this
was Cornerstone!). I soon realized: the camera was a Betacam, the headset
guy, and the bag carrying guys (all with 700 Club press passes).
I can't describe what all took place for the next half hour or so, but
I did take about a roll of pictures which will help me explain it all.

Sunday...BibleLand shirt - The day! Not much happened
during the morning/afternoon. I saw quite a few people with DA shirts on
so we were able to do the "Nice shirt" comment thing...(did
anyone get that?) The concert was to start around 7:30pm so I went
to the Compassion tent around 3:30. Mike Roe did his sound check, then
Ashley Cleveland, then our beloved friends...
Does someone remember the songs played in the sound check? I had them
typed in, then lost them. I know they played Big Guns...
Anyway, after Terry's sound check, some bald guy's band had a sound
check - I was quite confused...there wasn't anyone else scheduled to play....
The time finally rolled around where John Thompson came on stage to
start the evening off. To my confusionment, he introduces Grover Levy (the
aforementioned bald guy). Now, for a DA fan to have been waiting
for four hours to see Terry & Friends, and he sees Grover Levy...there
was disappointment and frustration in the air. Grover made some comment
about how everyone there must have been there to see Ashley Cleveland and
kept going on about how it was such a pleasure to be on the same stage
(with Ashley). He should have been shot. (Flame away, I had
to say it)
Finally, Terry & Friends were introduced!
The band lineup was:
Terry: vocals, guitar (did I need to say that?)
Tim: bass
Ed: drums
Jerry: guitar on a few songs
Andy Prickett: guitar
Steve Hindalong: various percussive instruments
Phil Madeira: accordion and Hammond B3 (organ)
Derri Daugherty: electric mandolin on a few songs
Sadly, Greg was unable to attend due to work. And with Jerry residing in Nashville, he could not make the practices - so he was only able to play on a few songs.
In case you missed the concert, you can listen to The Glory Road in RealAudio! I know it's a poor recording, but it's better than nothing. Click here to listen.
